I will begin this blog with recent work I’ve created in my
studio. Here you see a logo/brand design for a local café and caterer. I’ve
applied the logo to the signage in front of his building for presentation to
the town (for approval). This composite serves as a sketch for his approval, as
well as giving the sign painter a good representation of the final sign for his
quoting purposes. Please leave a comment to begin your participation in this
class blog.

Nice placement of the brand design, but The open flag could use some work.
ReplyDeleteFor sure!
DeleteI like how the "c" in the red circle is part of the "a". To me the sign is for a cafe and catering, since it says on it. The style makes me think that the food is more or less traditional and smaller goods.
ReplyDeleteConnie - you might have been the only one that recognized the deconstructed "a" in the red circle that is actually made of both "c" and "a" intentionally. Good for you.
DeleteI like the design of the sign alot. The color scheme works well and is memorable but I can't help but feel like it should be less heavy visually on the right side.
ReplyDeleteThe challenge to working with this design is that the red circle is not exactly centered. So when adding type below it, I really can't center it!
DeleteThe “Chef Allan’s Café catering” sign looks very neat and organized. There might be a use of an inside shadow to accent the box further. It looks great in front of the building and will work to attract attention.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you suggest a shadow, but I agree that the sign is not as integrated into the background environment as it could be.
DeleteThe overall design of the logo is very organized and modern. I believe the red circle could use some work, from a distance the two letters "a" and "c" blur together creating one shape and missing the message of that component.
ReplyDeleteI guess from a distance the letter inside the red circle would appear as an "a" which is just fine. From close up, I'm hoping some people will see that it contains a "c" although I'm not sure that is crucial.
DeleteThe red in the logo really catches my eye. The customers will most-likely be drawn to the text that surrounds the red "a" logo. They will remember that "A" that stands for Allan.
ReplyDeleteExactly - and maybe they will see the "c" inside the "a" too?
DeleteI like the placement of the sign, and the design goes well with the style of the building. Though the lack of a shadow on the ground removes from the immersion of the image.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, I totally agree.
