I redesigned (scrapped) my first picture for many reasons, not the least of which being that it was bad. With these new pictures I focused more on the path making it "pop" in order to make it more indicative of the product. I also tried to make the tagline have that "right to you" feel by actually making it move up the path to the viewer.

Hope you like them.
Sorry for the late upload.(for some reason it was trying to log me in through mwcc?)
Jonathan – it’s nice to see this take shape! Some suggestions:
ReplyDelete1. As I look at these images, I see a lot of ragged edges that make this appear pretty rough and not particularly realistic. I think your concept is to actually “show” this path as realistically as possible – correct? In that case you need to return to almost all of the edges of your elements and take much more care in selecting them. You may need to do them over again, because “refining the edges” will probably only make them worse. So again… much more careful detail work along the edges of the path is needed. And blurring the edges is not a solution, because in the end it will just look like poorly done photoshop work. One of the skills that you need to show in this final project is that you understand how to use all the different selection tools for the different types of edges you need.
2. It looks like you are trying to make a glow happen to the path, in one of the images. This makes a lot of sense and should happen in all of the images. However, the technique you are using doesn’t seem to result in the path glowing as much as a separate curvy fuzzy line following the edge of the path. Nothing is glowing. So, please consider another way to make the path glow. I wonder what color the glow should be? Red? I did a quick google search and found this tutorial that I think will help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7K3JbJQDIE
3. It looks like you have darkened the greenery around your path. Good… that makes sense that the path would glow at night so the landscape should be darkish – as if it is dusk. The path itself, however, is a color that we wouldn’t see at dusk. It needs to be darkened as well. I wonder if you should have some fun with this, and decide to add color to the path itself – not just the glow.
4. The type… please reconsider its position. The headline should not be broken up and placed at angles on the path, because currently we don’t believe it is actually a part of the path. I think the headline should sit along the top edge or bottom edge of the image… since the path itself should be the focal point (and not simply a background behind the type). Consider adding a banner of color along the top edge and placing the type in there.
5. Logo – you haven’t designed one yet and this doesn’t show me that you understand what logo design entails. Please know that this needs to be a more sophisticated solution that uses good design sense. Be a designer. The color, placement of words, and font do not add up to a logo that embodies the ideas and ideals of the company. Read about Design Change in my handout… understand that this is a financial research and development company. Do some research into what a logo for that type of business might look like (google it).
The logo itself is not the focal point of the image. Please reduce its size, a lot and place it elsewhere in the image.
So this is a start, and much more work is needed but you are on the right “path” ☺
